About Resource
Programming and Services provided by Resource teachers are intended to assist students in achieving the learning outcomes of the Public Schools Program curriculum or, in the case of students with an IPP, their individualized outcomes. Collaboration is critical to ensuring the essential relationship between support and outcomes. This is facilitated through the participation of both the Resource Teacher and Classroom Teacher in the program planning process.
Resource is provided through a Co-Teaching Model. The Resource Teacher and Classroom Teacher collaborate in a variety of ways to provide instruction to further achievement of the expected outcomes for all students within a classroom. If extra support is required, it is likely that the Resource teacher has been a part of the conversations regarding that extra support.
Resource is provided for students in need of some additional support. Students are initially identified by classroom teachers as struggling with literacy (reading and math) skills. In consultation with parents, the student's name is submitted to the Teaching Support Team (TST) to discuss the student's needs. Resource support is one of the potential options open to the TST.
The Resource Teacher can also provide any of the following supports including programming information, needs assessments, running records, assessment support, adaptations, strategies for reading/writing/math, extra time to complete assessments/assignments, study strategies, Assistive Technology information and resources, alternate assessment settings and organization and time management skills. Because the classroom teacher and Resource teacher work together to support students, you may hear from either the classroom teacher, the Resource teacher or both. Conversations with your classroom teacher and Resource teacher can help you to understand your child's needs.
